Farm Update July/August
July has been steadily busy with markets, CSA, and birthdays. We celebrated Craig's birthday with cherry pie and kayaking at Causey.
In addition our goat, Finnick, celebrated his 1st birthday on July 12th and our mouser cat turned one on July 5th.
This past weekend marked the halfway point in our CSA and it was also the first weekend of the Monastery Farmer's Market which will be happening every Saturday until August 31st. And I'll be there for every one of them.
August is going to bring some changes and more birthdays (namely mine). This weekend we'll be banding the bucklings and putting them up for sale. We'll also be starting to focus on what needs to be done around the ranch to prepare for winter.
In CSA news: The grasshoppers are still hanging around and being as annoying as ever, and the the earwigs are still an issue, but they're more manageable. Soon we should have tomatoes, peppers, and several types of squash coming out our ears.
In goat news: The three baby boys are going to be available to purchase soon. They'll be $100/each, so if you, or someone you know has been wanting to get goats keep us in mind. The boys will be castrated. If you don't have goats, you'll need at least two as they are companion animals and need another goat with them. Wethers make great companions for female goats, they are also great as pets.
In soap news: Market season as arrived, as I mentioned above so if you attend the local Ogden Valley markets, look for me and stop by and say hello!
In book news: I've written a children's picture book about goats! It is now available for purchase! I have plenty of copies on hand if you'd like one. It's called If You Give A Goat A Flower and the goat in the book is based on our very own Finnick!
In workshop news: The kids workshops are finished and they were so much fun. It was a lot of work though, when everything else is really busy, so I'm looking at some other options with the kid's workshops in the future.
