Farm Update January/February

It has been an unusually warm January and while we still have snow on the ground, it's melting at a quick pace. I'm not usually thinking about mud at the beginning of February, but mud we have. It's making me want to break out the garden tools, but we still have a couple of months before I can do that. My seed starting shelves are starting to look nice and green though. I haven't really shared anything about seed starting this year over on my social media pages, but I expect that will begin to change soon enough as I begin starting more seeds in February.

In CSA news... I extended the window for last years members and those who were on the waitlist to be able to sign up until February 6th. I realized, with the holidays and a brand new year to contend with, that it might be a good idea to give a bit more time to them. However, on February 7th, our CSA registration will open to the public - assuming I still have some space left. I will send out and extra email on the 7th letting you know for sure.

In goat news... After 2 attempts at breeding Reba this season it appears she has once again been unsuccessfully bred. I spent a couple hours on the phone with vets the day she came back into heat, trying to figure out if there were any other solutions. I called vets from the Idaho border down to Utah County with no luck. So, for right now, Reba is retired and will remain that way unless I can figure out some other possible solutions.

Honey, on the other hand, may once again be pregnant despite my best attempts to prevent her from becoming so. Badger jumped the fence to be with her and she has not come back into heat.

Just for my own mental sake, I will be doing a pregnancy blood test on both of them in a couple of weeks just to make sure. Depending on the outcome of these tests, we may or may not decide to bring in another female goat this spring, along with our very own buck.

In soap news: My novel soap collection can now be found at the Gandy Dancer in Ogden, and my lotion bars, lip balms and save can be found at Eden Coffee & Cocoa. I am very excited to be working with these two establishments and to be able to offer you all different ways to get your hands on some of my products!

I released a new product in the last month, bath bomb eggs. These are mini bath bombs and come in a bag of four. I always kind of thought the bath bomb craze was just hype, but then I made some and tried them and now I almost never take a bath without one! So now I have them available for you!
