Farm Update
It's been a weird February. 50 degree days and a lot of mud. But this week we're supposed to have a return of snow. I still think we're going to end up having an early spring this year. And I'm perfectly okay with that.
If you're thinking about starting a garden this year, I have some seeds available. Bloomsdale Spinach, Waltham Broccoli, and Snow peas. There is a link to purchase these at the bottom of this newsletter. Broccoli takes some time to grow and prefers cooler weather, so you'll want to start those seeds pretty quickly.
In CSA news: We still have space in our CSA this year so if you want to register you can do so here: https://grownby.app/farms/julbud-ranch/shop
You will be able to select how many items you want to pick up each week (4,6,8, or 10) and the prices vary based on how may items you choose. Then, on your pickup days you will get to come and 'shop' from our stock of fresh, organic veggies.
In goat news: Rain went to his new home in February and for some reason it was harder to say goodbye to him than the others. I don't know if it was because he was the last, or if it had something to do with the fact that I had previously prepared myself for him to go to a new home only to have to say goodbye to his brother Oreo instead and so had to prepare myself all over again. I don't know, but it was hard.
Yesterday I drove to Goshen, Utah to pick up a new doe for our herd. Her picture is below and we've decided to name her Daisy May. As soon as she gets settled and comes into heat, we'll breed her to Caspian for summer babies.
In natural skincare news: Soaps are all restocked except Pilar's Soapbox. I thought I had a few left, but when I was trying out some new labels, I couldn't find them and realized I was out and haven't had a chance to make more yet.
Speaking of soap labels, my Novel Soap collection is getting a new set of labels and you're the first to see them! I have been wanting to make labels like these since I came up with the idea, but it felt daunting to actually starting making them because the soap cutter I was using wasn't giving me very consistent cuts and the labels need to have soaps that are consistently the same size to work. Well, I got a new cutter, and worked on the labels and I am IN LOVE!!! The new labels are pictured below.
I'm also in the process of restocking bath bomb eggs. I've changed the recipe so our bombs now include powdered goat milk to give you an even more luxurious bath experience! I also have new packaging and I'm in the process of updating the website images. I should finish by the end of this week.
Another exciting thing I've been working in is a soap making class! My wonderful friends Alisa and Tye came over to help me do a test run of a class so I could work out all the kinks and give me tips on where they felt I needed improvement. And now I feel ready to start offering these classes. I still have some prep work to do, and some supplies to order, so the first class will be coming up in April, so stayed tuned for that announcement!
Easter is coming up quick! If you're looking for Easter basket items for kids, our children's picture book If You Give a Goat A Flower is a great option! Plus I can sign it and personalize a message to your little one.
